MCKINNEY, Texas – Following the 2024 NCAA Division II National Championship Game Saturday afternoon, Valdosta State head coach Tremaine Jackson announced he as accepted the head coaching position at Division I and Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) member Prairie View A&M University in Prairie View, Texas.
Jackson guided the Blazers to a 13-1 record this season and the program's seventh trip to the national championship game. He finished his third season at Valdosta State with a 30-9 record, as he was named American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division II National Coach of the Year and earned Co-Gulf South Conference Coach of the Year. He guided the red and black to the program's 11th Gulf South Conference title.
"Valdosta State, Blazer Nation and I would like to say thank you to Coach Jackson for the last three years," VSU Director of Athletics Troy Katen said. "He has followed in the footsteps of many other head coaches who have continued to keep VSU and the Blazer football program as one of the premier Division II programs in the country. He has great student-athletes within the program and that has led to a special year. We wish Coach Jackson all of the best in his new journey and know that he will always be a Blazer!"
Jackson is the fifth different coach to lead the Blazers to the national title game which is the most all-time in NCAA Division II. In 2023, Jackson led the Blazers to a 12-2 record and a share of the program's tenth Gulf South Conference after taking over the reigns of the program in 2022.
