KINGSVILLE- Texas A&M University-Kingsville has announced that Scott Parr will become the head coach of the institution's storied football program effective immediately.
Parr joins the program as head football coach after serving as Co-Offensive Coordinator at Louisiana Tech University since 2022. Prior to that, Parr led the Navarro College (Texas) Bulldog football program as head coach from 2019-2021. Under his leadership, the Bulldogs were South West Junior College Football Conference Champions in 2019, the same year Parr was named SWJCFC Coach of the Year. That year, the program ranked 6th nationally in points, 1st nationally in yards, and 1st nationally in passing. The program continued to rank nationally in 2020 and 2021.
"Coach Parr is an outstanding leader who possesses the values that align with the mission of Javelina Athletics and our University," said TAMUK President Dr. Robert Vela. "He will be a coach who is all in for our program and our student-athletes, and that ensures we can continue to honor the great tradition of Javelina Football."
Parr replaces former head coach Michael Salinas, who was named Executive Director of Javelina Athletics in November. Salinas said Parr's record for developing leaders on and off the field will immediately impact the program.
"He is a proven winner and a dynamic leader," Salinas said. "Coach Parr understands the rich tradition of Javelina Football, and I believe he will work tirelessly to help us take the next step. We feel he is exactly what we need, and I am excited about the future of our program. We are thrilled to welcome Coach Parr, his wife Kyla, and his family to Javelina Nation."
Parr's 26-year coaching career includes serving as Offensive Coordinator at Eastern Illinois, Senior Offensive Analyst at Texas Tech, and Offensive Coordinator at West Texas A&M. Parr has also worked with programs at Tarleton State, Baylor University, and Sam Houston State.
"Texas A&M Kingsville will be in great hands with Scott Parr! He will bring an exciting brand of football to south Texas and he will win," said Chris Thomsen, Deputy Head Coach at Florida State University. "Scott understands and respects the great Javelina tradition and will work diligently to uphold it. I am excited both for Scott and the Texas A&M Kingsville community!"
""I am so excited for Scott, Kyla, and their kids as they embrace this great opportunity at Texas A&M University-Kingsville," said former West Virginia Head Coach Neal Brown. "Scott's positive energy, work ethic, and experience will help lead Kingsville back to the top of the Lonestar Conference."
"Scott Parr is a home run hire and the perfect fit for the "Texas A&I" football program," said Stephen F. Austin Head Coach Colby Carthel. "Born and raised around Texas football, he's a relentless recruiter, knows how to win big at the D2 level, pours into his players on and off the field, and he and his family will be a great addition to the Kingsville community!"
