From Sul Ross State University sports information:
Barry Derickson has announced his resignation as the head coach of the Sul Ross State University Football program. "I want to thank the community, the alumni and the university for its support. I also want to thank the young men that have turned the tide here at Sul Ross and leading the charge into Division 2 and pioneering a new way into a new conference, all of you set a legacy that will never be forgotten. I also want to thank all the staff that have worked for me here at Sul Ross, if it wasn't for you being able to trail blaze at Sul Ross wouldn't have been possible. I would like to thank my family and friends for supporting me from so very far away. Lastly, I would like to thank Amanda Workman as she allowed me the opportunity to lead this program and the great young men I got to coach here. I appreciate everything that I have at Sul Ross State University and without it I wouldn't be the better man that I am today. I am stepping down to pursue other opportunities. I will always be a lobo for life. Go Bo's!"
Derickson joined the SRSU football staff in August of 2021 as the Offensive Coordinator, he was elevated to Head Football Coach in December 2021. During his tenure, Derickson worked to improve recruiting, retention, and the football team's academic success, having an immediate and lasting impact on the program's culture. Derickson and his staff recruited the first class of DII student-athletes and completed their first DII season this fall. Derickson finishes his time at Sul Ross with an overall record of 11-20.
"I cannot overstate my gratitude for what Coach Derickson has done for Sul Ross State Athletics. He helped guide this program into a new era and navigated difficult terrain. He leaves this program better than he found it and will have a lasting impact on his student-athletes. Thank you for sharing your vision and passion with us. We wish you all the best in your future endeavors."
