NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut State University Director of Athletics Terrance Jones announced today that after twenty-four remarkable seasons with the Owls, Tom Godek's tenure as head coach has come to a close.
"Coach Godek has been an awesome torch bearer of the ideals that represent our university, and he has served as a tremendous mentor for countless young men at Southern Connecticut State University," Jones said. "Tom was part of a historic period in Owls' football and did an admirable job as its offensive coordinator and head coach. We are grateful to Tom, his wife, Lisa, and their children for their contributions to our university, community and State, and we wish him the very best in his next endeavor."
Godek concludes his SCSU tenure with a 125-118 overall record as head coach and offensive coordinator. With the Owls earning a berth to the Division II Playoffs in four-straight seasons (2005, 2006, 2007, 2008) during his offensive coordinator years, Godek's Owls teams featured 13 All-Americans on offense as well as 53 NE10 All-Conference offensive players. His overall head coaching record stands at 38-66 after 11 seasons at Southern.
"We will now turn our focus on the incredible young men currently in our program as well as the young men seeking to enroll at SCSU," Jones added. "Our national search for Southern Connecticut's next head football coach will begin immediately. I am confident that with the strong alignment among the University leadership, our passionate supporters, our proud history and our willingness to invest, we will have an outstanding pool of candidates."
Rob Eggerling, a 2001 graduate of SCSU, will serve as our Interim Head Coach until a new head coach is named. Eggerling currently serves as our Defensive Coordinator and Linebacker Coach.
