MARYVILLE, Mo. — Northwest Missouri State is a different program from the one that John McMenamin was a quarterback at from 1998 to 2002. But 22 years after leaving the program as a player, ‘Johnny Mac’ is set to come full circle and become the 21st coach to lead the Bearcat football program.
"I am thrilled to be able to bring Coach McMenamin back to lead our football program," Bearcat Director of Athletics Andy Peterson said in a press release. "His energy and passion for coaching and leading young men through the game of football just consumes you when you talk to him. I cannot wait to get him in front of our athletes, recruits, and all our stakeholders to cast his vision for the next iteration of Bearcat football. I know Coach McMenamin is focused and eager to quickly get connected to build meaningful relationships on behalf of Bearcat football."
McMenamin still holds the single-game passing record for Northwest with 473 yards on Oct. 27, 2001, against Central Missouri. He was a First Team All-MIAA selection in 2002 as he led the Bearcats to a 10-0 regular season and 12-1 overall record.
After graduation, McMenamin went to Nebraska-Omaha for two seasons. He was the offensive coordinator at Midland University then at Wayne State (Neb.).
