End Of Season Recap Part 1 – Looking back at the 2021 season With the end of the 2021 season upon us, it’s time to put a cap on it.

When I was younger and living in the Northeast, the big sports radio station was WFAN in New York City, the originator of the format. They broadcasted New York Mets games, which I was generally indifferent to being a Boston Red Sox fan, but they had a great set of announcers led by the legendary Bob Murphy.

With the conclusion of Week 11, the 2021 regular season is now over for five members of this column, but for one band of Wildcats from Ellensburg, Washington, their journey continues into the post-season with a first-round playoff game on the road in a place that was unexpected but much too familiar for the Wildcats.

“I’m warning you!...He’s got huge, sharp…er…He can leap about…Look at the bones!” While Week 9’s results weren’t necessarily unexpected in terms of who won and lost, the margins of victory were a bit on the surprising side.

Week 8 saw the race to the GNAC championship conclude with Central Washington winning their fourth straight GNAC championship. The Wildcats won in dominant fashion for the second straight game against Western Oregon.

For the second time this season, a team from this column has knocked off a highly-ranked and undefeated league leader. Central Washington pulled off the feat in Week 5 by beating Midwestern State, and now Barton does it in Week 7 by beating #8 Wingate 26-20 in overtime.

Week 6 saw a resounding win by Central Washington over rival Western Oregon as the Wildcats take control of the GNAC conference race and stay in the conversation for the Division 2 playoffs. Bluefield State also won their first game after a 2-week layoff, although they were underwhelming in defeating Fort Lauderdale.
