Ferris State's football magic continues

BIG RAPIDS – Ferris State gears up for an NCAA Division II football national title bid on Saturday with hopes to pull off one more win. Whether it’s by a lopsided margin or a come-from-behind victory, the Bulldogs just want the win. The Bulldogs have won 13 straight to put them in the national title clash on Saturday at McKinney, Texas againt Valdosta State, who they lost to in 2018 and beat in 2021 in two other title games.

Ferirs won handily over Central Oklahoma 78-17 to open the playoff season and then topped Harding 41-7. But the most memorable effort so far may have come Saturday at Top Taggart when the Bulldogs overcame a 38-27 halftime deficit to win 48-38 over Slippery rock.

“You have to give them credit for coming back,” Slippery Rock coach Shawn Lutz said. “We really believed anytime we were out there we were going to win that game. Mistakes hurt us. Ferris quarterback (Trinidad Chambliss) is a tremendous athlete. At the end of the day, they made more plays than we did. We kept fighting it to the end.”
