Kannon Katzer broke free on a 69-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter as 2-seed Ferris State rallied from an 11-point halftime deficit for a 48-38 victory over Slippery Rock at Top Taggert Field in Big Rapids to return to the NCAA Division II championship game for the first time since winning back-to-back titles in 2021-22.
The Bulldogs, who have won 13 straight since losing their season opener, will face top-seeded Valdosta State at 2 p.m. Dec. 21 at McKinney ISD Stadium in McKinney, Texas, on ESPN2. It’s the third title game appearance in six seasons for Ferris State, as well as a rematch of the 2021 game, a 58-17 win for Ferris, and the 2018 game, won by Valdosta, 49-47.
