D2Football.com is pleased to announce the players of the week for week eight of the 2024 season. 

Offense

Jada Byers
Running Back
Virginia Union
Jada Byers became Virginia Union’s record holder for career rushing yards in spectacular fashion in last Saturday’s win at Bowie State. Byers posted 324 rushing yards, averaging 9.3 yards per carry, and scored six touchdowns. Three of his scoring runs were from distances over 40 yards. For his career, Byers has 5,311 rushing yards, which breaks the previous school record of 5,008 held by Andre Braxton (1997-2000). Jada Byers is a senior from Bridgeton, New Jersey. 

Defense

Tanner Volk
Defensive Back 
Central Washington
Tanner Volk, Division II’s defending Cliff Harris Award winner, intercepted three passes and contributed three solo tackles in Central Washington’s win over Midwestern State. Two of his turnovers led to touchdowns that allowed the Wildcats to build a halftime lead of 21-7. Volk, who led all college football players in total interceptions last season, now has 22 total interceptions in his career. Tanner Volk is a senior from Portland, Oregon. 

Special Teams

Ty Johnson 
Wide receiver
Winona State 
Winona State’s Ty Johson totaled 160 punt return yards in the Warriors’ 31-28 win over Bemidji State and averaged 32 yards per return. In the final minute of the first half he returned a punt 49 yards that would set up a game-tying touchdown heading into halftime. Following Bemidji State’s first possession of the second half, he returned a punt 64 yards for a go-ahead touchdown. Ty Johnson is a junior from Waterford, Wisconsin.
