D2Football.com is pleased to announce the players of the week for five three of the 2024 season. 

Offense

LJ Turner 
Running Back
Catawba
LJ Turner put in a record-setting day in Catawba’s 44-41 overtime victory this past weekend. Turner carried the ball 35 times for a school record 329 yards, averaging 9.4 yards per carry. His five rushing touchdowns in a single game tied the existing program record. Turner’s remarkable day boosted him into third place in the national statistics for total rushing yards and rushing yards per game. LJ Turner is a junior from Palm Bay, Florida. 

Defense

DeMarcus Harris
Linebacker
Fort Valley State
DeMarcus Harris led a Fort Valley State defense that completely overwhelmed Edward Waters’ rushing attack. EWU finished the day with just 219 total yards and -37 on the ground. Harris was responsible for nine total tackles with 4.5 tackles for loss of 23 yards and two sacks for loss of 18 yards. The Wildcats won the nationally broadcast game on ESPN+ by a final of 48-14. DeMarcus Harris is a senior from College Park, Georgia. 

Special Teams

Ryan Ewing
Kicker
Black Hills State
Ryan Ewing was a weapon for Black Hills State in the Yellow Jacket’s 22-20 win in the 139th Black Hills Brawl. The Jackets were held scoreless for the entire first half until Ewing booted a program record 58-yard field goal on the final play of the half. Late in the third quarter, Ewing delivered again from long distance, connecting on a 48-yard attempt that would give Black Hills its first lead of the day. His final kick of the day, a 22-yarder midway through the final quarter, gave the Yellow Jackets a lead they would maintain until the final horn. Ryan Ewing is a junior from Mission Viejo, California.
